Question: How long does one need to be out of ireland before entering on another 90 day visa on arrival?

hi!
I was planning on doing a Permaculture course in ireland for 4 1/2 months. I am currently in Germany living here on a residency visa through my German wife, I carry a US passport I am wondering if i can go to ireland for 2 1/2 months and go back to germany for a week and than fly back to ireland for 2 more months. I know i can recieve a 3 month stay tourist visa on arrival but if i leave and comeback will i be able to come back in with a new 3 month visa on arrival. I cant find anything that states the rules on this. Any help would be appreciated. I tried calling the consulate here in germany but i didnt feel i got the best answer. thanks

Answer: The 90 days leave to remain is granted to those who want to visit Ireland for the purpose of tourism or doing business. The general rule is 90 days in – 90 days out of the country. If you stay in Ireland for 2 ½ months and return after a week the Irish immigration officer will assume that you try to stay for another purpose and to be a de facto resident in the country and might possibly deny your entry.

Do it the official way. After your first arrival at Ireland register with the local immigration authorities and obtain a Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) Card and a stamp 2A student permission in your passport that covers the stay for longer than 90 days. Fee: € 150.00.
